This free image ALT text generator (powered by AI) to give you 3 image ALT text options so the pages on your website are setup for accessibility and SEO.
Make your images better for SEO and accessibility, without wasting time overthinking it.
If you’ve ever uploaded an image to your website and stared at the ALT text field like, “uhhh…WTF do I write here?” — you’re not alone 🤪
Image ALT text is important. It helps search engines understand your images AND makes your content accessible for screen readers. But writing unique, clear, keyword-friendly descriptions for every single image? It adds up fast.
Which is EXACTLY why I built this FREE Image ALT Text Generator.
Upload your image, add a little context, and get three ready-to-use ALT text options in seconds. No guessing. No second-guessing either. Get a clear, useful description you can copy and paste without having to write it yourself.
First and foremost, ALT text exists to make the internet more accessible. People using screen readers rely on those descriptions to understand what’s happening in an image, which means your ALT text helps ensure your content is usable for everyone, not just people who can see it.
ALT text also helps search engines understand your images. Since Google can’t actually “see” visuals the way humans do, it uses ALT text to interpret what the image contains and how it relates to your content.
This is ALSO how your images get indexed in Google’s image database (aka they can show up directly in search results). This can be REALLY powerful for visual industries like eCommerce, design, food, travel, or product-based businesses, where people are often browsing images before they ever click a website.
When your image ALT text is clear, honest, and descriptive, you’re giving Google more confidence in your content, which strengthens your overall SEO and increases your chances of being discovered.
Helping both humans and search engines understand what you’ve created = a win-win for your SEO.
👉 Step 1: Upload your image
You’ll need a copy of your image on your computer or device. You can’t link to an image on a website or in a Google Drive folder. The format of the image needs to be in .jpg, .png, or .gif format.
Got an image in a different format? Use this free online converter to change it to a .jpg.
👉 Step 2: Add a keyword (optional)
If this image supports the target SEO keyword of your page, you can include it in the generator. The tool will incorporate it naturally into your image ALT text options.
👉 Step 3: Add a little context
Sometimes AI can be a little wonky. Give the tool a little extra context about your image. This a great place to put people’s names, titles, or other details too!
👉 Step 4: Click the Button to Generate your ALT text
You’ll get 3 options you can copy and paste directly into your website.
Let’s say you’re a Pinterest Marketing Strategist & you need an image alt text for a photo from your most previous brand shoot where you’re sitting at your kitchen table, working on your laptop.
First, you’d drop your cutie lil’ picture into the upload section.
Then, you would add:
After you click “Generate ALT Text” — you’ll get shown 3 options, like this:
Option 1: Smiling Pinterest marketing strategist at desk, holding pen thoughtfully near pink notebook and laptop.
Option 2: Jenny Adams, a Pinterest marketing strategist, working with laptop and notebook, pen in hand.
Option 3: Thoughtful Pinterest marketing strategist smiling at workspace with open laptop, pink notebook, and pen.
🔥 It saves you time: No more overthinking or slowing down your workflow.
🔥 It supports your SEO: Search engines can better understand and categorize your content.
🔥 It improves accessibility: Which makes your website better for real humans, not just algorithms.
🔥 It keeps you moving: Because SEO works best when you keep improving, not when you get stuck on small details.
A good image ALT text isn’t about stuffing keywords. It’s about clearly describing what’s actually happening in the image.
Here’s the goal: if someone couldn’t see the image, your ALT text should help them understand it.
✅ Good ALT text is:
🚫 Bad ALT text looks like this: “pinterest marketing strategist pinterest marketing expert pinterest strategist marketing”
That’s not helpful for anyone. And Google knows it.
✅ Good ALT text looks like this: “Pinterest marketing strategist, Jenny Adams, working on laptop at home office desk”
Clear. Helpful. Natural.
And that’s exactly what this tool helps you create.
Most people either skip ALT text completely OR they overthink it and accidentally make it worse.
Here are the biggest mistakes I see:
Search engines and humans are trying to UNDERSTAND your images & your content. The clearer and more accurate your signals are, the easier it is for them to trust your website.
Every meaningful image on your website should have ALT text. It improves accessibility and helps search engines understand your content.
If the image is a background image or for decorative only purposes, you don’t need to add an alt text.
